Powerful Actors, Fragile Media Systems

Powerful Actors, Fragile Media Systems

Erik Uszkiewicz

As a representative of the DIACOMET project Erik Uszkiewicz participated at the international conference entitled "Regulation and Accountability in a Hybrid Media System: Content Creators, Algorithmic Plurality and Online Platforms" held at Charles University in Prague, 10-11 February 2025. In his paper co-authored with colleagues from the Austrian Academy of Sciences entitled "Beacons in unknown territory? How codes of ethics can (and cannot) safeguard free and responsible media" he analysed the documents collected by a working group of the project, also addressing self- and co-regulation in the Hungarian illiberal media space.  The full database of codes of ethics is available here. The keynote speaker of the conference was former Vice President of the European Commission, Věra Jourová. The event, which was also connected to another Horizon Europe project called MeDeMAP, was organised within the framework of the ReMeD project coordinated by the Charles University.
